The Final Flight: The Story Of Safe Air DVD - NZ$26.00
A documentary about the forty years of New Zealand's SAFE Air - the people, the planes, and the unique relationship with the Chatham Islands.
On the 27th of September 1990, Argosy aircraft 'Merchant Enterprise' of Safe Air Limited flew from Christchurch, New Zealand to the Chatham Islands, and return. This flight brought to an end a special era in New Zealand aviation. For forty years SAFE AIR had been the nation's air freight carriers, their unique Bristol and Argosy freighters providing a bridge across Cook Strait and a highway to the Chathams.
John Gordon was on board that final flight, and tells the Safe Air story - from its 1950 Rail-Air beginning to its 1990 finale. The ponderous but faithful Bristols have gone, but their Safe Air stories live on in this absorbing documentary.
Told in John Gordon's distinctive style, "The Final Flight" is a special New Zealand story that will be enjoyed by both aviation enthusiasts and a general audience.
Argosy ZK-SAE 'Merchant Enterprise' which flew the last flight, is now the only Series 222 Argosy left anywhere in the world. The ARGOSY TRUST is dedicated to the restoration, preservation and display of this unique twin boomer.
Duration: 50 minutes
The Final Flight was produced and directed by Paul Davidson, for the Argosy Trust.
