Other Costs

If you are located further than 30km from Blenheim (where virtualNZ is based), there may be an additional charge made for travel expenses incurred. We will discuss this at the time you order your VR package.

Also, if the nature of your business is such that additional travel time is spent between your different business locations, additional charges for time may be incurred. For example, if you are a tourism company with an office in one location, and an activity occurring in a separate location, significant travel time between the two places may be charged for. See the package listings above for details on the maximum time on-site allowed (at no extra charge) for each package.

We only provide one copy of the CD-ROMs for the package price. Additional copies can be provided for an extra charge.

What Is Included?

CD-ROMs

Once the photographs have been taken and processed, we will provide you with a CD-ROM that contains:
  • all the QTVR images in a lower resolution, internet ready format (as on this web site).
  • all the QTVR images in a larger, higher resolution, CD-ROM ready format.
  • information for your web site developer, explaining how the internet ready versions of the images should be placed on your web site to ensure that they are fully compatible with both Macintosh and Windows computers.
  • the CD-ROM will contain a 'web site' like archive of your images, containing captions for each of your images (you provide the text for each image), so that you can distribute copies of the CD to your clients [not included in Small Business Package].

    Virtual Company Package

  • for purchasers of this package we will provide a separate master distribution CD-ROM. This will contain a 'web site' like archive of your high resolution images (similar to this site), containing captions for each of your images (you provide the text for each image), so that you can distribute copies of the CD to your clients.
  • When the 'Virtual Marlborough' CD-ROM is produced later in 2002, your images will be included at no extra cost. You will be able to purchase copies of this CD-ROM (at a wholesale price) to sell to your customers.

Distribution Licence

vitualNZ will provide you with a royalty-free, unrestricted, perpetual licence to use and distribute your QTVR images as you wish, provided you do not charge for them. We will retain original copyright of the images, and may use them in other virtual reality CD-ROM products or web sites at our discretion.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why would we use QTVR?

The whole point of most web sites is to make your (potential) clients and customers purchase and buy your products, and to try and make them remember who you are so that next time they will return to your site. Adding some immersive QTVR images to your web site is one low-cost and effective way to get your clients to stay longer at your site, and to think of you next time.

Ask yourself this question: "How long did I spend looking at the QTVR images on the front page of this site?"

The web site is slow, why?

Each QTVR image on this web site (and the low-res versions we will provide you with), are approximately 150-250k in size. This compares with standard 2D photographic images which are usually in the range 20-60k. This means that when connecting to the internet with a modem, you will notice that the images take a little longer to be fully displayed and useable.

The thing to remember however, is that many of the 'virtual tourists' that will be visting this site (or your own), are likely to be those from overseas, with high speed internet connections. For them, there is little or no delay in displaying the VR images.

Can you create our web site?

In general the answer to this queston is 'no'. We are not in the business of developing web sites for our clients, however we can put you in touch with a number of web developers who will happily help you create your web site, and make use of your QTVR images.

We don't have a web site, where can we put our panoramas?

If you don't currently have a web site, but simply want to make the images available on the internet for your clients to view, then we can in some cases provide a 'hosting' service for your images. Please contact us to discuss the additional costs involved in this service.

Can you add other material to the CD-ROMs?

Yes. We can add additional text information, still photographs, red-green 3D photographs (anaglyphs) and video clips to the master distribution CD-ROMs if you wish. This will be an additional cost, so please discuss this with us in detail first.

What is QuickTime VR?

QuickTime VR (Virtual Reality) or (QTVR) is Apple Computer's award-winning, photorealistic, cross-platform, virtual reality technology that makes it possible to explore places as if you are really there. QuickTime panoramic movies are 360 degree views of scenes - such as a landscape or building - that allow you to look up, down, turn around, zoom in to see the detail, and zoom out for a broader view. As you change the view of a scene the correct perspective is maintained, giving the ability to look around just like in real life.

At the intersection of traditional photography and new media technology, QuickTime VR moves the photographic image from the flat, 2D world into a more immersive experience.

Why Do You Use QuickTime?

Apple's QuickTime 5 software has been downloaded over 100 million times by both Windows and Macintosh customers in its first year. Every day, more than 300,000 people download QuickTime to view news, entertainment, movie trailers and virtual reality content on the Internet. This huge user base is equipped to view your coolest QuickTime content. For more information, see the QuickTime site.

What is the 'Virtual Marlborough' CD?

We have begun production of a CD-ROM product, showcasing and highlighting Marlborough as a tourist destination. This will include a large number of QTVR images, and possibly small movie clips and still phtographs as well. The CD-ROM will be sold for a small charge to tourists already in the province (who wish to take a momento home), or to companies who wish to provide the information to potential customers.

Purchasers of the Virtual Company Package will have their details added to this Marlborough-wide CD free of charge. However it should be noted that we may offer additional services/space on the CD for these companies, and there may be an additional charge (features and functionality of the CD product are yet to be fully confirmed).
