Crazy Looking 100-Year Old 'Pusher' Aircraft From WW1 Still Flying
Wings of Glory is a modular boardgame collection published by Ares Games and dedicated to World War One and World War Two air combat. It's a great game that can be played in as little as 30 minutes (sometimes less), and which is a brilliant way to introduce people to the history of aerial battles of the past.
The WW1 Wings of Glory Duel Pack is the ideal starting point to play Wings of Glory. It includes everything you need to start playing: a rulebook with Basic and Standard rules, maneuver and damage cards, 40 counters, two measuring rulers, two airplane consoles and two airplanes, with special gaming bases, in 1/144 scale, fully assembled and painted. The pack also features Target, Trench and Anti Aircraft Machine Gun cards, to play a number of different scenarios. Photo: Supplied
The year is 1917. All across Europe, while men face a last-ditch battle in the mud of the trenches, colorful biplanes fly in the foggy sky, gallantly fighting each other as true "knights of the air." Take the commands of one of the early flying machines to shoot down your enemy, complete recon missions, and become an ace, following in the steps of men like Manfred von Richthofen, Eddie Rickenbacker, Georges Guynemer and Francesco Baracca! The WW1 series of Wings of Glory is an easy, fun to play, fast and furious system which you will be able to start playing minutes after opening the box! Innovative game mechanics encompass planes with very different flight capabilities and firepower, while still keeping the flow of the combat simple and fun. With an original maneuver and combat system, Wings of Glory delivers fun and historical accuracy with no headaches to the players!
This is a short video for people unfamiliar with the game and it's mechanics to demonstrate the box contents for the first World War One box (Famous Aces), and the way in which the game is played.
Aircraft can then "fly" on the table or the floor. A ruler is used to see if a plane has enemy cards/aircraft in his field of fire: if so, the player chooses one target that must take a damage card with a random amount of points (optional rules cover special damages too). Short range fire (up to half ruler of distance) mean two damage cards instead than one.
The maneuvers available, firepower and number of damages sustained before being eliminated depend on the airplane chosen. In this official tutorial video, learn how to play the game in five-ten minutes.
